A tiny reveal day to hopefully enjoy on another manic fall Monday 🙂 The powder bath is here and she turned out pretty darn cute (with a 100-year-old royal pug photograph no less). These rooms are always so hard to shoot (no natural light and so tiny so you can’t really get pulled back) but Kaitlin and I managed to get enough photos to show it off 🙂 Let’s dig on in.
As a reminder here is where we are in the house:
This room is RIGHT off the family/media room so as you can see I wanted the colors to coordinate and flow nicely. I love how the blue of the wallpaper calls back to the color of the room (SW 6223 Still Water). That dark mauve color (SW 9078 Cocoa Berry) is SO hard to read properly on camera/computer. Here is it looks more pink than it is, but you get the gist of it.

She is a little moody and full of a lot of soul/fun. I’m really glad we did the custom paneling in here (a large 12″ beadboard) and then topped it off with some pegs (from which to hang a lot of fun stuff). I bought that hanging cabinet unfinished from Etsy and had it painted to match, which I LOVE. I had plans to put a fun lamp on the side of there, but once we hung the cabinet it felt perfectly balanced so I could just focus on styling it out.
The sink is wall-hung (from Rejuvenation) and we put it off-center on purpose – mostly because I thought the asymmetry would look cool (and I liked that the sink was centered on the door.)
The sink is more utilitarian which I love and because its so deep it catches all the water so that the wood has stayed dry thus far. This is where our kids wash their hands after feeding those little piglets and it’s also where they brush their teeth in the morning (because somehow the walk to their bath upstairs leads to one million distractions and they are never to be seen again for 20 minutes IYKYK).
We used some of my vintage Boro fabrics as the skirted panel, but I had a piece with this darker pink tone that we sewed into the already patchwork pattern to bring the colors together. We simply staple-gunned it underneath the table (and we keep extra TP behind the curtain). I love how it turned out so much.
That’s the beauty of this Boro – it is super forgiving and flexible. If you are following not so closely you’ll have seen it in two different rooms (Charlie’s and the living room), but if you are following really closely you’ll notice it in THREE (the family room, which is yet to be fully shot/revealed – happening soon I promise).
All the fun styling elements I had in my prop room. I’ve been collecting amber vintage apothecary jars for a long time and these two look so pretty in here. The cosmos are from my garden (and are bursting out there – SO PRETTY). The tray I’ve had forever from Katy Skelton. And re the pug – listen, I got sold this by an antique dealer hard. He said that it was a royal pet, from some Queen/King dynasty and the fact that there was a photograph of it taken in the late 1800s or early 1900s (I don’t remember) means that it was of utmost importance. I think it was strangely expensive (like $110) and it certainly doesn’t have much design impact, but I was enthralled by the idea that some queen/king had their precious pug photographed with an old time-y camera to capture its essence. I love the sentiment that it reflects (I think that’s why I love pet portrats so much – it’s such an investment and you have to really love your pet in order to even think to do it – Birdie is making and selling them for Christmas gifts FYI and I LOVE how hers are turning out – runs in the family I guess!).
I LOVE this wallpaper. I bought it from Scandinavian Wallpaper who has a large selection and ships pretty quickly (no affiliation, despite my attempts LOL). It’s both floral and a stripe, with a warm taupey- gray background and of course that dusty blue which I love so much.
Shout out to Rejuvenation for their articulating light and all the switches. I love how the sconce comes out from the side, slightly unexpectantly and creates such a fun vignette over the sink.

Y’all. These sillhoettes that the kids made during the first month of lockdown bring me SO MUCH JOY. Whenever I see them (which is frequent) it reminds me of that extended togetherness time. I found the matching antique frames off Etsy and had the glass put in by our framer, Dave. We hung them off the peg rail with S hooks and gallery chain. I truly treasure these so very much. You can see the full tutorial HERE. Oh and here’s a hack – ask to do it with your kids for your birthday or Mothers Day, that’s what I do now (otherwise they aren’t into such things). Mother’s Day weekend is now my “let’s scrapbook together” time because I can’t seem to get us to do it any other day. Growing up, my parents had us do it twice a year during general conference (the TV session of mormon church where you listen to the prophet talk – wow that sounds weird as I’m typing it) and we’d sit around and label the years worth of photos and artwork and put together our albums. 🙂
Yes, we have a toilet in the powder bath. Hilariously, we decided to take it out of the main shot (below) because you could only see a bit of the front of the bowl (and y’all AI photoshopping did it in two seconds – under Kaitlin’s guidance of course).
There she is! I think it turned out so sweet, fun, with some unexpected moments. Definitely not too simple, but full of character – probably how a powder room should be. 🙂 Resources below. xx

Ohmygosh! This is the farm shaker bathroom. I love how you executed the details – centering the sink on the door, the integrated soap dish so farm!! peg centered over the toilet so the art is centered, the blue wallpaper and the adjacent blue doors, the gorgeous Boro fabric color story – so well! So good!!! Love seeing color and pattern in a little bath that is like a subtle moody hug.

I’m curious about the logic to staple gun the fabric – not only does it put holes in your unique vintage fabric, but now you can’t remove it to wash the fabric. Did you consider installing a curtain rod?
I had this exact same thought! I definitely would have installed it with a curtain rod. It’s a bathroom, who knows what might happen! With it under the sink, I could see people accidentally using it as a hand towel, not to mention illness and projectile vomiting (eew, I know, but my kids have hit the walls before).
I also don’t like the idea of putting staples through a fabric like this…the holes it’s leaving and possible bits of rust from the staples.
Agree! Adding a velcro strip would also work and be easy to adjust/remove.
Love love love it all. And feel happily validated because I also have little silhouettes of my kids above a powder-room toilet. Though mine aren’t home-made (or as gorgeously and creatively framed,) I brought the kids to a local home goods store when they had a silhouette artist in town for the day. But still such a fun memory and treasured result.

Did you have your peg rail done by the same folks (Arciform?) who did the paneling? Or did you get that somewhere else? I’m looking for a great place to purchase authentic (at least -looking) shaker peg racks. The bathroom is STUNNING.

I’ve purchased pegs from peg and rail based on a rec from Remodelista and I love them. I customized mine to fit perfectly between trim and even had one peg left off to slide behind draperies. They were lovely to work with too.

Absolute perfection! This is a great case for taking the time to let a room/decor evolve and not doing something in a hurry just to have it finished. The vision at the start for placement of the sink, light, layout is great, and then giving some time to decide about the paint color, wallpaper, find just the right farmhouse table, frames, etc. has definitely paid off! This feels very EHD, in the best way. Brava!

The boro fabric skirt: Use velcro (stick on or staple gun) to the inside of the vanity and use the softer side of the velcro to stitch onto to the fabric. Easy work around to a rod in an awkward space and makes the fabric easy to wash when it will get splashed on by the men in your house 😉
Love the room. Beautiful as always. I always love your work! But had to comment on the photoshopping and using AI to remove the toilet. Is that really necessary? I mean your home is already gorgeous and way beyond what most of us could do in our own homes. But even that isn’t enough apparently? I hate it when designers and influencers photoshop out the “ugly stuff” like cords or outlets or even toilets! If you can make the utilitarian stuff look beautiful, and share it proudly, I think that says a lot about the designer. I vote real photographs…less photoshopping whether it be of bodies or houses!
I think this may have to do with comments asking why the toilet is where it is in the space. In unedited photos, it is right next to the door and extends into the doorway space. At least that is what it looks like. I know I have previously asked why the toilet was placed there or why the room wasn’t wide enough to accomodate for it so it didn’t stick out into the walking path/room entry, but my comment didn’t go through. And it wasn’t asked in a condescending or belitting way, just genuinely curious. So she may have edited it out and then explained that so that people don’t keep questioning the placement. I guess it was just an oversight, and they didn’t realize it until it was too far along to adjust for.
For what it’s worth, I’m curious too!

That fabric looks terrific with the additional pink striped pieces attached. Really works well here with the paint color. I definitely get the farmhouse vibe here.
It’s LOVELY. I really love the paint color/ wallpaper combination. And the light mounted to the opposite wall was such a fun touch!
A correction because I’m a bit of a plant snob- those are Japanese anemones (and one cosmo). The great thing about anemones is that they do well in the shade and they are perennials, so they will come back each year.
As soon as I saw your powder room post last week, I knew I recognized that paint color! I just painted part of my living room Cocoa Berry, and I love it. It’s such a chameleon – sometimes pink, sometimes brown, other times I’m sure it’s purple. Anyway, I love it and love your powder room so much!
I love all your choices from paint to wallpaper to fixtures to styling with one exception, the skirt on the vanity. To my eye, the skirt makes the small room look even smaller, and the Boro fabric seems to overpower the rest of your styling. But I’m clearly in the minority 🙂
I agree with you about the fabric. Also, why isn’t it gathered? As is, it has a very temporary look to it as opposed to intentional and designed.
I’m ok with the fabric but agrees that it should be gathered for a more finished look.
It’s very sweet–I particularly like the sink/farmhouse vanity and the boro curtain. That’s not my favourite shade of pink so I had my doubts but it looks really nice the way you’ve put everything together.
This room is stunning! Love the wall color, the wallpaper choice is so fun and interesting, but the sink, faucet, and table really make it special! Great job 🙂 The only changes I could see in the future (change is always fun when its inexpensive) is swapping out that mirror for a round one since the square is competing a bit with the box, and adding more fabrics to the skirt so they bunch and putting them on a rod to make it more traditional. Again, so lovely and wonderful as is but just a few tweaks for future consideration.

Also love how everything is hanging off those pegs rail. It’s such a genius idea, you can avoid putting permanent holes into the walls and things can be easily interchangeable WOW! Is this something that’s ever been done before?
I was a bit skeptical of thepreview, but the reveal is lovely. Specifically the clever soap holder, new mirror, and quilted skirt.
The powder room is a delightful gem. What a wonderful mix of style elements. Each brings something special to the party and no one element shouts to the others that it is the boss. Teamwork in the best way!

I would love to read a post by Emily about her thoughts on her original concept for this house as simple and “shaker”-inspired. Every reveal baffles me because she’s made choices that are the opposite of shaker. I think I would like many of the choices if I didn’t have that background, but since I do, I’m like why would you choose such a fussy wallpaper pattern if you’re going for shaker? (let’s not even get into why she would choose wallpaper at all if she was going for shaker) I want to be able to move on and appreciate these beautiful spaces for what they are, not what they are not, and I think I would be able to do that if Emily spoke to when/why she veered away from that original design goal and how she would characterize the style at this point and what’s guiding her as she continues to add more and more fringe and detail and art deco influences and and and. Please consider a post about this!!!
Planning to do something similar in a small bathroom! If I’m taking the Cocoa Berry all the way up the wall (no wallpaper), would you recommend going with Cocoa Berry on the ceiling, or white?
Seems very Emily Henderson and fits so nicely with what you’ve done throughout your new home. Dropping that amazing sink into a vanity instead of having it exposed is not a choice I would make, but I can see why you might opt to in this space.
