The Best Online Fabric Stores (+ All Our Favorite Picks)

We shop for fabric quite a bit over here at EHD, whether it is for a DIY, a client, my own home or an editorial. It’s still one of my favorite things to buy in person because you can touch, smell, caress, throw on your furniture, stare at excessively, etc. But some of the big box fabric stores or the fabric district (either here in LA or elsewhere) can be overwhelming what with their hundreds of options and rows and rows of stacked yardage. It’s often random what you find, they may not have the exact yardage that you need, or you may have to trek around to get something quality that still feels special. And while we LOVE venturing out in the the fabric district (we even made a video about it years ago) there is such a vast amount of good stuff online that we figured it was time to pull together an updated version of some of our favorites to shop at. If you are a regular to the blog then you know that we originally pulled together this list back in 2015, but there is so much good new stuff constantly entering the market and new makers and artisans showing of their craft that it was due time for us to update it.

So we pulled together this updated fabric roundup post to highlight the best ONLINE fabric stores. These are all fabrics that you can buy from anywhere – not just to the trade, and not just in person at the stores. We chose a lot of patterns to highlight some of these stores because it makes for a more visually fun post, but most of these sites have pretty simple solid linens, cottons and velvets as well.

B&J Fabrics has a broad selection of all different types of fabrics, and you may have to do a bit of digging but you are sure to find something that will work for your space. I am very into all of these on this moodboard as they are simple, classic and refined.

Caitlin Wilsons’ patterns are always really happy, playful and fresh. She also has pillows and rugs in a variety of patterns and sizes.

Calico Corners has a massive collection but is filled with LOTS of good options. They have a huge variety of price points with both solids and patterns in upholstery and quilting weight which makes them a go to for anything in the home. I used them to make all of the curtains and shades in our new home and could not be more happy with the quality, service and fabric. They customize anything in store but for those of you just looking for fabrics they have everything you need online.

Consort, a local go to of ours, recently started stocking Caroline Cecil’s textiles which are modern and classic, in a handful of colorways that seem to work with any style. They also sell her ready-made pillows if you are looking for something off the shelf.

Drygoods Design is a smaller Seattle based company that continues to introduce new prints. They have a great selection of fun and simple patterns, be sure to check them out.

This one was new to me when we pulled the list together originally, but Fabric Bubb is pretty darn happy and fun and has some really pretty patterns that don’t feel too “in your face”.

Famcor has a massive selection online in just about every color and pattern but we are fans of their solid linens and performance velvets. Brady used #1 on his DIY headboard and says that the fabric has held up extremely well and was at a great price point.

Famous for their beautiful wallpaper collection (many of which we have used before) Hygge and West have nailed the classic patterns and offer a selection in fabrics as well. If you are into a good toile then you will be into them.

Most of you know this, but Ikea has pretty great fabric for under $10 a yard. I probably wouldn’t use a lot of these in a large area but for a kids room or a smaller pillow or project some of their options are great and really affordable.

Joann’s has fabric for everyone – and I mean everyone. They are nationwide and have an extensive collection both online and in store. I love Nate Berkus’ current collection there as his are always so simple and chic. Generally the price points are good, the selection is huge and it’s available for fast shipping everywhere. They also constantly have promos and coupons, so be sure to search before you buy to grab a coupon code that can cut your order price in half.

Kiitos Marimekko is a classic for all those you can handle that much pattern and color in a fabric. For the right space they have some beautiful options.

Some of Lacefield Design’s feel a bit more old world and classic – but you know I love a good classic print in a happy colorway.

Lewis and Sheron are old school – they’ve been around since the 40’s but their inventory is large and they have lots of classic gems. You might have to search a bit to find something that works for you but they do have a great online inventory. Their prices are all over the board – some in the teens and many as much as $80/yard. Their inventory includes both apparel weight and upholstery weight here.

We use them constantly as they have a store here in LA, but their online selection is wonderful as well.

I’m pretty obsessed with everything Rebecca Atwood is putting out currently. Her fabrics and pillows seem to make it into a lot of our projects and it is for a good reason. They are always modern and yet feel handmade, with simple patterns done in a delicate, fresh way. If you are new to Rebecca you will love what she currently has to offer.

If bright colors and patterns are your vibe then Rifle Paper Co. (who also have a paper and wallpaper line) are perfect for you. Some of these would be so fun on an accent chair or pillow.

Serena & Lily has always been a go to for me for home goods and furnishings, and their fabric collection is well curated and has a lot of great traditional patterns.

Spoonflower, we’ve used them before in projects (remember this headboard DIY from what seems like EONS ago?!) Basically, people design their own patterns and then you chose how you want them printed on a fabric. It’s more patterns than solids, for sure, but they come in a bunch of different weights  – light to heavy.

Svenskt Tenn (that is a lot of consonants in one name) is filled with fabrics that although might not be perfect for my current house definitely make me happy to look at. I believe they are reproduced vintage Swedish patterns. They aren’t particularly budget friendly (I converted one and it was $273/meter) but this isn’t ‘the cheapest fabric in the world’ roundup and this stuff is really special and unique and I love what they have.

Tonic Living is doing a lot of good upholstery weight fabric (for sofas and headboards) in simple, understated and high quality ways. They also do custom work for pillows, shades and draperies. Brady had his dining room and bedroom roman shades made through them and has only the best things to say about the quality, fabric and service they offer. They are also constantly adding to their inventory online.

TwentyOne7 has Duralee, Lee Jofa, Schumacher – all the classics but they’ve curated them for you and I found quite a bit that I was into and would use for future projects.
